As North Devon and Exmoor was a well loved haunt of the great romantic poets, it is one of the best places to go for Valentine’s Day. If you’re lucky enough to find yourself in the region and are looking for things to do on a budget this Valentine’s, here are some of our suggestions for date ideas that won’t break the bank.
Challenge your other half to a surfing competition
The North Devon coast is a haven for surfers and other watersports enthusiasts, so whether you and your loved ones are regular surfers or have always wanted to give it a go, hire some equipment or bring your own and have a little competition.
Have a picnic on the beach
North Devon is known for having a raft of delicious dining experiences, but if you’re on a budget, why not grab some of your favourite foods and a couple of blankets and head to the beach. At this time of year, the beaches are relatively quiet so it’ll be a nice chance for the two of you to spend time together and feel like the whole space is yours.
Explore Exmoor
The Exmoor National Park has lots of beautiful, awe inspiring scenery and was the setting for Lorna Doone, which is often lauded as being one of the most romantic epic novels of all time. Perhaps while you’re walking around, spotting the ponies and enjoying the scenery you might be inspired by the romance of it all.
Go on a food and drink tour
There are places all across North Devon offering tours of their distilleries and vineyards and these can be a great way to spend the day together. You might discover a new favourite drink which will then forever remind you of the day.
