We might have a clearer idea of when lockdown is likely to end, but we still won’t be able to enjoy the beauty of North Devon any time soon. To tide you over until everything is opened back up, we thought we’d bring you some of our favourite places in North Devon to catch a photo for your Instagram feed. North Devon is full of beautiful places, so it was tough to narrow this down, but if your gram is looking a little empty after two years of lockdowns and restrictions, make a note to visit some of these places once travel is permitted.
Saunton Sands beach
Once you’ve been, it’ll be obvious why this is one of the region’s favourite beaches. It regularly wins awards and is part of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has three miles of golden sands stretching along towards Braunton Burrows, a World Heritage and UNESCO Biosphere site. If that isn’t enough, they’re also some of the biggest sand dunes in the UK!
Clovelly
The historic village of Clovelly has to be seen to be believed. There is the harbour, the quaint buildings, the cobbled streets, the donkeys and of course, the waterfall. If you want to forget about the modern world, this is the place to be and will provide plenty of fodder for your Instagram.
Valley of the Rocks
Located on Exmoor just outside of Lynton, the Valley of the Rocks is an awe inspiring site. It is a steep u shaped valley with plenty of dramatic vistas and jagged rocky cliffs, perfect for those of you who want a bit of a photography challenge. Plus if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to see some of the mountain goats that call the valley home!
Exmoor National Park
As it is a dark skies reserve, going during the Dark Skies Festival will give you plenty of interesting photos, but even if you visit during the day, you’ll still have lots of opportunities to get great pictures. The moor features dramatic, rugged greenery as well as incredible coastal views, so you get the best of both worlds!
