Spending the summer in North Devon? If you are looking for things to do to keep the whole family amused, take a look at some of our favourite attractions and activities on offer in North Devon.
North Devon is full of amazing beaches and there are loads of beachside activities available from watersports to rockpooling to just lying in the sun (safely of course!), you’ll find refreshment stands, surfing sessions and more all right on the seafront.
If you are into your watersports or want to challenge the family to have a go, Putsborough, Woolacombe and Croyde offer the best conditions for getting out on a board – so be sure to give those a go! Meanwhile, Combe Martin has a great family friendly beach and Ilfracombe is home to the incredible Tunnels Beaches, where you can learn a bit about history while you take in the sights!
Why not visit the largest sand dunes in the UK by heading to Braunton Burrows – not only is it an interesting place to visit, but it is also in the heart of the region’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it is a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve.

We don’t call it the Adventure Coast for nothing! There are loads of ways you can have an adventure in North Devon but the easiest way to get the blood pumping is at one of the region’s theme parks. Head to the Milky Way for endless fun on rollercoasters and other themed rides or to the North Devon Wake Park for a touch of thrill seeking. For the younger kids, take a trip to the Big Sheep, where everyone will find something to entertain them, the parents especially love the sheep races!
Keypitts Offroad Adventures give you plenty of opportunity to challenge each other, especially with their quad bike activities and their battlezone archery sessions, or you could head to Skern Lodge where you can tailor your own adventure to your family.
Just because school is out doesn’t mean that the learning has to stop and what better way to learn about the world around you than while on a trip to North Devon? Ilfracombe Aquarium is one option for finding out more about both the local marine wildlife and creatures from further afield. Of course, there are hundreds of museums all over the region too, you could head to Appledore and learn about pirates for instance!

Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park allows you to mix modern day creatures with those that stalked the region millions of years ago. Alternatively, there is the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway, the only fully water powered railway in the UK – great views of Exmoor and something fascinating to tell their friends about when you get home!
One way to distract from online gaming is to enjoy the natural world – something that is very easy to do on Exmoor and in the North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty! You could always visit the historic village of Clovelly and meet the donkeys or find out about conservation at Exmoor Zoo.
If you want something a little more tranquil, RHS Rosemoor has a whole host of family friendly things to do taking place all over the summer and Hartland Abbey and Gardens always makes for a great day out.
