The most spooktacular time of year is nearly upon us - Halloween! If you’d like to make this year the most ‘fangtastic’ one yet, keep reading. We’re giving you a guide to not only the best Halloween events this year, but also where’s best to go trick or treating and where to pick up the all-important pumpkin.
In the run up to the 31st October, the homes of North Devon begin to start featuring their jack-o’-lanterns on their doorsteps. Some take a traditional form but others take on more of a challenge - if you fancy creating a carved masterpiece this Halloween, head to The Big Sheep during their Halloween Festival. They’ll be offering pumpkin carving whilst their supplies last.
When it comes to where you should head on the scariest night of the year, J H Taylor Drive in Northam, Bideford always put on a scary celebration. In Barnstaple, the Littabourne area is also home to locals who love to celebrate this holiday.
Halloween nearly always falls hand in hand with October Half Term, so how better to fill the children’s week off school than with festive celebrations?
The Milky Way are hosting their Halloween Hocus Pocus event between the 20th and 28th October.They’ll be holding fancy dress competitions, themed shows, spooky swamp dodgems sessions and more.
Watermouth Castle are also hosting their very own Spooktacular Halloween Half Term. Visitors are encouraged to visit the park in full fancy dress, if you do so, you’ll gain entry to the park for just £7.
The Big Sheep are catering to all ages in their Halloween celebrations. For the little ones they’ll be a haunted house to explore and a haunted hayride. They’ll also be extending their celebrations up until the 31st October for visitors with the later half term.
If you’re looking for some adult Halloween fun this year, be sure to take advantage of The Big Sheep’s ‘Scary by Night’ events. They’ll be opening the doors to their Horror Farmhouse. Room after room will introduce a new fright that will leave you screaming for the door. It’s certainly not for the fainthearted.

If you fancy picking up some extra special treats for the trick or treaters this year, head to the Cadbury Store at Affinity Devon or So Sweet in either Barnstaple or Westward Ho!.
If you’re looking for a place to pick up your pumpkin, don’t forget to pop by one of North Devon’s Markets. There are numerous held throughout the week in various locations including South Molton, Barnstaple, Bideford and Torrington.
