North Devon has a wide range of world cuisines available all made with locally produced ingredients and authentic flavours. Whatever it is you’re looking for, you’ll find your perennial favourites along with some more unique to North Devon. As you would expect from an area with a unique natural larder, the people of North Devon are proud of their local produce and love to show it off, which is why, wherever you are in the region, you are never too far from a take away or a street food stall offering you some of the best dishes made entirely from produce created right here in North Devon.
Street food is a big deal in North Devon. From weekly markets with food stalls to pop ups and food traders appearing at community events and annual parties, like those held at Christmas, as well as the dedicated food festivals, you’ll find plenty of chances to sample some home grown Devon street food. One of the best things about the street food stalls in this region is how they are influenced by cuisine around the world, so whatever you are in the mood for, you can easily find it and be sure that it is created right here in the local area.
Make sure to look out for the weekly street food markets and pop-ups. You can find out when the next markets and events are taking place here.
If you’re camping or staying in self-catering accommodation, a takeaway is a great option. When it comes to camping, unless you’re handy with a BBQ, takeaways are an easy way to keep the family fed and with the abundance of choice, arguments over what to have for dinner won’t plague you too much.
Many of the camp sites in the region have their own take aways onsite, so you won’t even need to travel too far to find food.
Choosing a self-catering accommodation may also give you access to onsite take aways, particularly if you’re staying at a holiday park or complex. These are great choices for anyone who wants to give cooking a rest and indulge in the amazing local treats that are on offer and has become increasingly popular with those wanting a foodie break. There are several reasons why choosing take aways are a good option, other than the lack of washing up, you can have a whole host of dishes, so everyone is happy, plus, you don’t have to slave away following recipes for your whole holiday, just enjoy your day and then order in or collect when you’re ready!
You can’t leave the area without trying locally caught fish and chips. Though it isn’t the law that you have to have fish and chips while near the coast, it should be. Whether you want traditional fish and chips from a take away or pop up counter or something from one of the restaurants, there are plenty of choices for you in the region, so make sure to grab a portion during your trip!
