North Devon's adventures don't just stop with the activities and attractions, the region's events give you plenty of chances to explore, discover and have fun! Wherever you are in North Devon, you'll find a fantastic calendar of events with no breaks between the seasons. From markets to workshops, festivals and more, you'll find a whole range of events going on all year around with something from everyone.
In North Devon there is a host of annual festivals and events that are loved, not only by locals, but also visitors who return to the area year after year to take part. In Appledore, the internationally renowned Applefore Book Festival is an annual celebration of all things literature and brings thousands of visitors to the village every September. For such a small town, you'll find a dazzling line up of guest speakers and panals, plus the chance to explore the numerous quaint book shops that can be found in and around the village.
In the summer, you can often find Croyde full of excited visitors attending GoldCoast Oceanfest, which is a celebration of surfing and takes advantage of Croyde's fame for being a surf hotspot. The festival takes place over three days and features a combination of watersport displays, live music, family friendly activities and of course incredible local food and drink. That's not the only place you can find the region's locally sourced food and drink on display, you can also find regular food festivals in places like Clovelly, Torridge and Ilfracombe as well as regular local markets and agricultural shows.
Perhaps one of the most awe-inspiring events in the region is the Dark Skies Festival which takes place in the autumn on Exmoor. As the UK's first Dark Skies Reserve, Exmoor is a wonderful place to star gaze and discover the wonders of the night sky, so it is no surprise that every year, there are a host of events across the National Park to help you find out more about the universe and the stars that shine above us. You can find out more about the Dark Skies Festival and the individual events by visiting the Exmoor National Park's website.
North Devon isn’t all about the big events either, there are several smaller events that can be found all over North Devon and Exmoor, make sure to check here to see what is happening during your stay.
