If a camping trip is your thing, you’re certainly in the right place – with campsites overlooking the sea, to more unusual yurts, you’re in for a real treat. Sometimes there’s nothing better than getting back to basics and camping is one of the fundamentals of a British summer holiday. Luckily, these days there are a whole host of different options when it comes to camping, so whether you like the idea of completely roughing it with nothing but a sheet of canvas or you want to be out in the open but with facilities like toilets, showers and cooking equipment or if you prefer to be somewhere with pitches and electricity allowing you to choose between a tent, a caravan or a motor home, there is a site for you.
Or you could completely rough it and experience wild camping on Exmoor! The possibilities are endless!
Being such a popular holiday destination, you’ll find plenty of camping and caravanning sites in North Devon. From those run by the camping and caravanning club, to those on farms to those by the sea, there are plenty of places for you to choose from. Are you looking for an active adventure holiday? Why not pick a site that is more inland where you can explore the woodlands, moors and nature trails by foot or bike? Many walking trails are easily accessible from the camp sites around North Devon, so you can easily come and go as you please and explore as much or as little as you like.
Alternatively, find a site near the sea and make the most of the perfect watersport conditions that can be found in the region. The seas of Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe are great for surfing and the coast at Putsborough is ideal for beginners and those who are less confident on a board, so take a look at the sites in these areas. The South West Coast Path is also easy to navigate and can be found near many of the sites along the coast too.
Many camping and caravanning sites in North Devon are also dog friendly. Those that have static caravans will have some restrictions on which accommodation are dog friendly, but for the majority of campers, dogs are more than welcome!
You’ll find sites with designated areas for those travelling with dogs and sites that are happy for dogs to enjoy the whole site, so take a look at those listed below to find the best option for you.
Camping holidays have long been a favourite for families, partly because of how simple they are and being able to escape every day life with TV, gaming and the internet can be a big draw to parents wanting their children to experience nature. These holidays are a great way to bond and have fun together from pitching the tent to exploring the area and spotting local wildlife, camping and caravanning holidays take you back to a simpler time without sacrificing on the fun.
Besides, there is something very special about preparing a Full English Breakfast over a campfire and enjoying it together as the sun comes up! If you don’t fancy cooking for yourself every day, take a look at the more modern sites as many of these have an onsite club house with a built in restaurant.
If you love camping, don’t forget to take a look at the holiday parks and glamping options in North Devon too!
