We’ve put together our guide to spending 72 hours in North Devon with all the family! Including all of the area’s top attractions, family eateries and suggestions of where to stay – keep reading to discover how to make the most of your long weekend in North Devon.
What better way to start a fun-filled weekend break in North Devon than with a hearty breakfast? Two of our favourite places to head are The Riverside in Braunton and Fremington Quay Cafe – both serve up a delicious Full English!
After enjoying a fantastic brekkie, we’d suggest choosing from North Devon’s huge range of attractions and treat the kids to a day full of adventure. The Big Sheep and The Milky Way are great for pleasing the whole family. Both have a huge range of shows, rides and big play areas. Exmoor Zoo is also a great choice. The zoo is home to many interesting animals including cheetahs, alpacas and a jaguar!
For dinner we’d suggest visiting a traditional pub. For families, our two recommendations would be The Red Barn in Woolacombe and The Williams Arms in Braunton. The Red Barn is situated right next to Woolacombe’s beautiful beach and serves a range of pub favourites. The Williams Arms also cooks up pub classics, and serves one of Devon’s best carveries!
Day 2 is all about North Devon’s beautiful beaches! Choose from the area’s huge choices: Westward Ho!for a pebbled beach, Saunton Beach for golden sands and Combe Martin for rockpooling. See the full list of beaches to choose from here.
We’re continuing the coastal theme of Day 2 when it comes to our dinner recommendations. Make the most of North Devon’s stunning sea views by dining right next to the ocean. The Seagate in Appledore and The Pier House in Westward Ho! Are both great choices. If the weather is particularly spectacular head down to Barricane Beach Cafe for a Sri-Lankan curry. You’ll dine right on the beach and trust us when we say the curries are scrumptious!
Use your last day in North Devon to explore beautiful Exmoor. With rolling moorland, green spaces and wooded areas, it’s a great place to head to let the kids explore.
Tarr Steps and Withypool are great areas to visit, especially if you have little ones. Both have streams that are great for cooling off and playing in. A tip is to also take a net and a bucket to see if you can catch any little fish!
If your children are slightly older, we’d suggest walking up to Dunkery Beacon. It’s the highest point on Exmoor and, as you’d imagine, the views at the top are breathtaking.
Our food recommendations for Exmoor include good old fashioned pubs with a fine dining twist. The Rising Sun in Lynmouth and The Black Venus in Challacombe serve both traditional pub grub but also have a range of finer dishes which could be the perfect way to finish off your visit to North Devon.
