Christmas is here which means a few things; lots of gorgeous lights everywhere, shopping and Santa. We have made a list of the best things to do in North Devon this December to keep the whole family entertained.
One of the most beautiful locations in all of North Devon becomes even more stunning as their village comes to life through light. Make sure to head to Clovelly on the 2nd December for a live brass band and festive carols from 3.30pm with some amazing lights to finish the night off, all in the aid of the R.N.L.I.
Santa’s Grotto in Green Lanes is open until Christmas Eve for the little ones to meet Father Christmas and take home a gift or two.
If you are looking for that perfect last minute gift, Affinity Devon have late night shopping on a Thursday.
The first week of the most magical time of the year begins with Christmas Toddler Takeover days at The Big Sheep with interactive music shows and Christmas themed activities. The fun continues with the Christmas Markets every Saturday in December - the perfect place to find some amazing, unique presents for your loved ones.
Be transported to your very own winter wonderland at Affinity Devon every weekend with Snow Sundays. Enter your own snow globe and enjoy an experience like no other; with free entry it’s a must this December.
Get ready to Run with Santa in Santa's on the Run. Santa’s On The Run is great fun for the whole family and raising money for Children’s Hospice South West. This year the event is being held at RHS Garden Rosemoor with lots of entertainment and refreshments.
Head to SQ for their Christmas Cocktail Party. Sip on your favourite tipples and enjoy the sounds of Joy Machine on Thursday 6th December.
Mad Dog Mcrea will be playing at The Factory on the 8th December, a great mix of folk rock and jazz. The music keeps coming with Gruig playing at Riverside Caravan and Camping Park, also on the 8th December.
Santa Sundays at Dartington Crystal mean you can meet Santa and get some lovely personalised presents at the same time. On the 9th December from 11am till 3pm Santa will be waiting to meet all the good boys and girls in his Mary Poppins themed grotto; there will also be live music, a free prize draw and festive food.
Take a special train ride with Santa during the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Santa Special. Escape the busy shops, long queues and enjoy the train ride and a truly magical Christmas experience.
Even Santa knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that is why he wants to share it with everyone at The Big Sheep on Sunday the 16th December. From £15 per child to include lots off amazing goodies and a full english breakfast, this is the best way to help Santa prepare for the big day.
Enjoy some local street food in the annual Christmas street food party at the Barnstaple Pannier Market. With lots of international and local stalls with tons of excellent delicacies from Christmas food to gin, this event starts at 5:30pm on the 13th December.
With some of the best food and crafters in the South West, RHS Rosemoor will have hand crafted gifts at their upcoming Magic of Christmas Food and Craft Fair from 15th to 16th December, as well as being open every day except Christmas Day. Rosemoor is also playing host to the fabulous festive illuminations with a brand new route around the gardens, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 5th January.
If you haven't met Santa yet then has an incredible Grotto and Elf Emporium Experience. Offering experiences like making your own reindeer food and decorating gingerbread, be sure to book in early as it can be very busy.
For an artistic Christmas party head to the White Moose Art Gallery in Barnstaple to see the whole winter exhibition and a Christmas tree decorated by unique handmade decorations.
It ‘fizz’ the season to be jolly so visit SQ for their Christmas celebrations on Wednesday 19th December and enjoy a prosecco reception whilst listening to the sweet sounds of Amena El-Kindy.
This will be one of your last weeks to see the Peter Pan pantomime at The Queen’s Theatre, including John Altman as Captain Hook.
Chivenor Military Wives will be putting on a concert on the 19th December. Tickets are just £10, get involved in some festive carols and help raise money for a great cause.
Santa will be stopping off at RHS Rosemoor between 21st and 24th December to entertain your family with festive story telling session and a magical theatre workshop.
Clovelly are hosting their annual Boxing Day Barbecue which starts at 10am and runs right through to 5pm. It’s a day filled with live music, mulled wine and a delicious BBQ to tuck into. Clovelly offer free entry to all on this day, so take the opportunity to see the wonders of the village at the same time.
