Things To Do In August In North Devon
There is always an abundance of events taking place in North Devon, and August is no different! From MINI runs to beer festivals to local carnivals, take a look at our complete guide of things to do in August in North Devon.
August Events at North Devon Attractions
North Devon boasts some of the best attractions in the region - The Milky Way Adventure Park has even recently been named the 4th Best Amusement Park in the UK by TripAdvisor. Not only are these attractions great for general day trips, they also have a range of special events taking place during August.
The Big Sheep have got a calendar of events during August. They’ll be hosting their BMX Day on the 11th, their Bubblicious Bubble Weekend between 18th - 19th August, the Grand Tour MINI Run on the 25th and Marshall from Paw Patrol will be paying them a visit on the 26th August!
Head to Exmoor Zoo between 11th and 12th August for their Bug Weekend where you’ll get up close and personal with some of the UK’s most impressive bugs and insects.
Quince Honey Farm will be hosting live beekeeping demonstrations throughout the month of August. If you really want to get stuck in - you can even become a beekeeper for the day!
RHS Garden Rosemoor are holding a Jurassic Discovery Garden Trail during the coming months. It’s the perfect chance for families to enjoy creative play and discover fascinating facts about our Jurassic history. They’ll also be welcoming Captain Coconut and his amazing Bubble Show on the 8th and 28th August.
For the teenagers, Skern Lodge are offering a collection of adventure-packed days during the summer months. Choose from surfing, kayaking, high ropes and much more!
Food and Drink Events in August
If you class yourself as a foodie, North Devon has a whole host of events for you to enjoy during August.
Johns of Instow and Appledore are hosting a selection of free tasting events. On the 4th August they’ll be welcoming Wicked Wolf Gin, on the 18th August Tors Vodka will be making an appearance and on 25th August Siblings Gin will be joining them for a Taster Day. More details on their events page.
The Devon Street Food Festival will be returning to the coastal town of Ilfracombe between 10th - 12th August. You’ll be able to feast your eyes upon a variety of dishes from creamy cheesecakes to glorious gourmet mac ‘n’ cheese.
Dartington Crystal, well known for its stunning glassware, are hosting their very own gin event on the 16th August. They’ll be making their very own crystal gin for one day only and are also offering free engraving when you buy a bottle of gin and a pair of gin glasses.
Gin and vodka not your tipple of choice? The Ilfracombe Beer Festival is running from 23rd - 25th August at the Landmark Theatre. It’s free to attend and also includes a BBQ and live music.
Fun Local Events
Whether you’re a local yourself, or like to feel like one when you visit North Devon, there are a bunch of fun-filled local events during August.
The beautiful villages of Lynton & Lynmouth have the Pleasure Dome Theatre Company performing Lear at the Valley of Rocks until the 18th August. On the other end of the spectrum, they also have the Lynmouth Raft Race on August 11th.
The Appledore and Instow Regatta have their Regatta Day on Sunday 5th August, a day full of races and activities. They’ll also be holding the World Championship Crabbing Contest on 10th August, starting at 5pm on Appledore Quay.
The South West Birdman returns to Ilfracombe on the 11th August where we’ll see creative locals throw themselves off Ilfracombe pier, all hoping to ‘fly’. It’s a sight that needs to be seen!
Head down to the historic village of Clovelly on the 18th August for their Gig Regatta where you’ll see Devon’s best teams go head to head in a fun but intense day of competition.
Ilfracombe’s MINI Madness will see North Devon’s MINI fans join forces for the Annual Grand Tour on the 27th August. Watch the end of the tour in Ilfracombe for a spectacle not to be missed!
Carnivals in August
Get colourful and creative at this summer's calendar of traditional carnivals.
Combe Martin Carnival week takes place between 4th - 11th August and is a jam-packed weekend of vibrant fun including a wheelbarrow race, a traditional carnival and fireworks.
Appledore Carnival is taking place on Sunday 19th August and Ilfracombe Carnival will be taking place on 26th August.
Art and Garden Events
North Devon also has a range of art and garden events taking place during August.
The White Moose Art Gallery is showing their 'Coast' exhibition until 7th September. It features the work of four talented, local artists all responding to our fabulous North Devon coastline, sea and estuaries.
Tarka Pottery will be running Friday Family Clay Workshops throughout the month - it’s a great event for the whole family to get involved in.
If you’re a lover of beautiful gardens, Merry Harriers Garden Centre have a great range of events taking place this August, starting off with the Classic Car Show on the 27th August - the perfect event for motor enthusiasts.
