Well, February has certainly flown by! Packed full of exciting stargazing, blustery beach walks and heaps of entertainment - March certainly has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, we have another busy month ahead as we steer closer toward Spring and Easter.
March promises to be a busy period, with big national days such as The First Day of Spring and Mother’s Day, on the way! So, without further ado, let’s take a look over some upcoming events.

We’re kickstarting the month with the Festival of Female Voices on 5th March at Torrington Town & Community Hall celebrating the voices of women across the UK. Featuring Lesley Pearse, one of the UK’s best-selling novelists. The festival aims to help women find their own voice and includes a well-being day, poetry and dance workshops, inspirational talks and an open mic evening. Lesley will also be talking about her latest book, You’ll Never See Me Again. The event will also be a fundraising event in aid of North Devon Against Domestic Abuse.
Dust off your best dancing shoes because from Friday 6th March, The Devon Rock & Roll Party is coming to the Barnstaple Hotel. Featuring JJKing and the Coolers, Good Rocking Tonight, Downtown Daddyos, Johnny and the Jailbirds, Vinage and Daniel Berry. Good food, good fun and great music is guaranteed!
It’s time to get stretching because March begins with the Bideford Half Marathon. The course starts and finishes close to Bideford Amateur Athletic Club and takes in the stunning scenery alongside the River Torridge between Bideford and Great Torrington. All finishers will receive a t-shirt and medal with other exciting prizes (including cash, champagne and trophies) available for specific category runners!
And finally, It’s Not Unusual to be blown away by an amazing Tom Jones tribute act at The Cedars! Join the best Tom Jones tribute artist in the UK for a truly fantastic show featuring all the hits, performed brilliantly.

Heading into the second week of March we have The BIG North Devon Wedding Show at The Big Sheep. Meet some of the finest wedding exhibitors that Devon & Cornwall have to offer, and what’s even better is that they’re offering FREE entry to brides and grooms! The event is on Sunday 15th March and runs from 11am - 3pm. Be sure to head down to get all the wedding inspiration you need!
That’s not the only thing on the 13th! The Cedars are also hosting a Charity Race night, raising funds for North Devon Animal Ambulance & Special Olympics North Devon. Tickets are only £2 per person, head along for a fun-filled evening.
Don’t put those running shoes away just yet because it’s time again for the Arlington Court Canter, a 10k off-road race set in the spectacular woods of Arlington Court. Taking place on Sunday 15th March from 10am, it’ll be muddy, hilly, technical and challenging - all the things that we love about running.

As we roll into the third week of March, it’s time to kick back and let the laughter flow with Ed Byrne at The Queens Theatre on Friday 20th. Join Ed for his ‘If I’m Honest’ tour, where he takes a long hard look at himself and tries to decide if he has ANY traits that are worth passing onto his children - it’s sure to be a thoroughly entertaining evening. Not only that but on Saturday 21st March, the Circus of Horrors will be storming the stage too. An amazing amalgamation of acts driven by a rock and roll soundscape, this exciting show will have you on the edge of your seat!
It’s also time to get stuck in to help our environment! Westward Ho! Beach clean, hosted by Plastic Free Torridge, is on Sunday 22nd March. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!
Don’t forget that Sunday 22nd is Mother’s Day, so take a look at North Devon’s ample array of restaurants, cafes and other food options and plan a day that Mum will remember.

Make a trip to RHS Rosemoor extra special this March and experience their second Wool & Yarn Fest on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March. Be inspired to learn new skills and you celebrate the multitude of ways that wool and yarn can be used in our daily lives. As well as an incredible range of exhibitors, there will be wonderful woolly animals to meet and return of the fantastic Yarn Bombing Trail, which this year, will be based on the novel The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Liven up your Saturday night at The Big Sheep’s annual Charity Fight Night, on the 28th March. With plenty of fights and entertainment, it’s shaping up to be a truly exciting evening! All money raised will be donated to Cardiac Risk in the Young.

As we head toward the end of March, it’s time to start getting into that Easter spirit! And what better way to put a spring in your step than to head down to Clovelly and take part in their Find the Easter Chicks event? Starting on Monday 13th March and running all the way up until April 13th - this eggciting event is guaranteed fun for the whole family! Chicks are perched along in various locations along the cobbled High Street to the quay and children are given a village map on entry.
Speaking of Easter, The Big Sheep’s Easter Eggstravaganza event also commences on Monday 30th March. As well as having over 30,000 chocolate eggs to find, there will be something for the whole family to enjoy including a selection of great rides, attractions, shows! Who knows, you may even spot the REAL Easter Bunny!
