8th December 2017
If you’re like us, you’re pulling your hair out over what Christmas present you should be buying your kin.
But there’s no need to worry when you live in – or are visiting – North Devon! There are many fantastic North Devon gifts perfect for Aunt Ethel, or for your hard-to-buy-for sister!
That’s why we’ve rounded up a few ideas to hopefully plug some Christmas present-shaped gaps this winter! We hope they help…
There are absolutely loads of fantastic pubs and restaurants in North Devon; a lot of which offer vouchers to be used at a later date. One example is with Brend Hotels, who offer a lovely afternoon tea voucher. Failing that, why not create a “voucher” yourself, promising them a meal at one of these fine establishments?
If it’s something concrete you wish to give, there are plenty of wonderful food and drink items that would make fantastic stocking fillers. How about a jar of something sweet from Quince Honey Farm or the Proper Marmalade Company? Or, if it’s a tipple they are partial to, there is Sam’s Cider and Wicked Wolf Gin to treat them to. Got a sister with a sweet tooth? How about some fudge?
No matter what tastes your family have, North Devon will have something to tantalise tastebuds this Christmas.
A couple of lovely items are becoming very, very popular not just in North Devon, but around the whole of the UK. Wanderlustlife, from Ilfracombe, create lovely pieces which feature gemstones that showcase the wearer’s personality.
There are also Nalu beads, from Croyde, which are inspired by surf and travel and were originally based on North Devon beaches. You can still purchase beads that signify Croyde, Woolacombe, Saunton, Westward Ho! and more.
They both make lovely gifts for anyone partial to an item of jewellery.
If you’ve got friends or family who love a little “something” that they can keep in their home, there are plenty of arts and crafts makers in North Devon.
Dartington Crystal (above) is probably the best-known, with their beautiful glassware – from vases to glasses, via personalised keepsakes – in shops up and down the country.
There are also Jacob Sheep Wool products including fleeces, yarn, hats, cushions and scarves on sale from Huxtable Farm; ceramics and paintings from husband and wife duo Roger and Ros Cockram; silk and pottery from Clovelly and much more.
We recommend checking out Huxtable Farm’s fantastic guide to the arts and crafts in the area for more information.
Come on; get your credit card out and just buy them a holiday already! Well, not really, but how better to get 2018 off to a fantastic start than by paving the way for a loved-one to enjoy some time away next year?
Whether you earmark some of North Devon accommodation and put a deposit down, book an activity or two to enjoy on your stay, or do indeed go the whole hog and buy a stay in one of our top places to stay – there are many things you can do to ensure the 2018 calendar will be marked as soon as it’s opened.
With so many fantastic attractions and beaches in our region, it would be silly not to have a think about where you can take your loved-one either this winter or next year.
And you won’t have to break the bank, with a beach walk costing next to nothing (depending on parking and how many ice creams you eat!).
There are also plenty of attractions and activities in the area which can be enjoyed. How about a spa retreat at some of our luxury hotels, an afternoon trampolining at Air Extreme, or a year’s membership at one of our lovely gardens? You can even treat them to interactive experiences at Exmoor Zoo or Combe Martin Wildlife Park!
There aren’t many times you can say you bought someone a swim with sea lions, are there?!
On top of this, North Devon has some wonderful places to shop. From Atlantic Village in Bideford with their huge range of shops, to Lynton and Lynmouth and their selection of artisan sellers, through to the various markets in the area, we’re certain there’s somewhere you’ll be able to pick something lovely up!
We hope we’ve helped you pick out a few more presents to go under the Christmas tree this year. However, if you have any more questions, or think we’ve missed something, then get in touch with us!
We monitor our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts 9am-9pm, so don’t be afraid to drop us a line.
