Well done, you’ve made it through the January blues. Now we’re onto the shortest month of the year - but don’t worry, we’re not short on things to do here in North Devon!
Whether you’re getting ready for half term with the kids or Valentine’s Day with that special someone, we have the lowdown on everything that’s going down this month, and it’s looking to be a good one.
This week sees an amazing exhibition of clay sculptures and paintings from Michael Storrs. With some amazing pieces inspired by his career, representing performers and organising classical music events, it won’t be one to miss. This exhibition will be held at the White Moose Art Gallery in Barnstaple.
More of a music fan than an art buff? The Whiskey Shivers will be playing the St Mary’s Hall, bringing their unique brand of folk music stand up to Bideford.
Be sure to get your thinking caps on for the IDTA Winter series of fundraising quizzes. This is a series of six fundraising quizzes for anyone to enter; team sizes are from 2 to 6 with an entry price of £2.50 per person, so it’s the perfect opportunity to gather some friends together.
Love is in the air this week, and if you’re looking for the perfect place to dine out for Valentine’s, John's of Instow's Dine at Home for Two is perfect for you. With options like award winning camembert and West Country sirloin steak all for £35, your taste buds are in for a treat. The deal includes vegetarian and gluten free options with a bottle of wine included.
Have you got the X Factor? If you answered ‘yes’, then makes sure you’re at Petroc on the 14th to try your hand at the X Factor Auditions. The auditions are closed with no audience or public entry, but it could be your time to shine if you impress the judges!
Dartington Crystal are having a huge sale beginning 16th February at 10am. They will have hundreds of one off samples that will never be available again, so be sure to get there early to avoid disappointment. The sale ends 24th February and all stock must go - huge bargains are to be expected, so don’t miss out on this one.
There’s another treat for the music fans among us, with the Big Night Out coming up on the 16th. The North Devon music collective is returning for the 3rd year running to bring you the best of the local musicians and bands. Tickets are £10 with all money raised going to Clarity, a local charity supporting Mental Health counselling. Doors open at 6:30pm.
On the 16th, Ilfracombe Aquarium will be reopening for a perfect family day out seeing lots of different aquatic life. Barnstaple Library will also be hosting Saturday Science Club, the ideal event for kids who want to learn a little something. Starting from 1pm, the afternoon will last two hours and include experiments with paper, invisibility ink and magic flowers for just £15 per child.
Start your half term the right way by enjoying a ride on the Lynton & Barnstaple Steam Train. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the steam train will be open for the duration of half term.
The Big Sheep will have some amazing events and attractions running throughout half term. They have shows like lamb feeding, as well as a beer show for the adults. There are a lot of rides, live animals to meet and play areas for everyone to enjoy.
On the 26th the Queen’s Theatre will be hosting a Respect to Aretha event starring The Voice contestant Letitia George. The event starts at 7.30pm.
Pay a second visit to the Queen’s Theatre on the 27th and enjoy Jason Manford’s new stand up special “Muddle Class”. The show starts at 7.30pm and will be unmissable for any of his Absolute Radio show fans.
Finally, starting the next month on a high, the 1st of March will see Red Dwarf actor, Craig Charles, hosting Funk & Soul Club at the Factory. Tickets are £17 and doors open at 8pm.
