Christmas in North Devon is one of the most magical times of the year and the streets turn into a wonderland of exciting events and experiences. Christmas grottos, festive markets and a great time for the whole family awaits.
Christmas Markets
Head to RHS Garden Rosemoor for their annual Christmas Food and Craft Fair from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th November. It’s always a magical weekend filled with festive delights from across the South West. Pick up a range of unique and wonderful gifts from a mixture of craft and food stalls.
The festive fun continues in Torrington Square on Saturday 1st December from 10am. Enjoy a festive atmosphere, christmas grotto, themed characters and a christmas market to kick off the month.
The Big Sheep will be getting festive on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd December for their weekly Christmas Craft and Food Fair head to the Bideford attraction between 9am and 4pm.
Affinity Devon will be hosting a special festive pop-up market full of foodie gifts and treats on the second and third weekend of the month.
If you’re after some delicious festive food, then Barnstaple Real Food Market and North Devon’s Street Food Market both being held in Barnstaple Pannier Market, are the place to go on the 9th, 13th and 20th December.
Santa’s Grottos
Let the little ones give their list to Santa in person as you visit one of North Devon’s many grottos. Santa will be ready and waiting to meet the children every weekend at until the 24th December. You can’t miss his enchanting light show, so make a day of it.
Booking is essential if you want to meet santa at the Milky Way this Christmas. Enter the grotto, see Buzzlewick’s Elf Emporium and let the kids get stuck into festive activities all December. If Hatherleigh is a little closer to you, you’re in for a real treat because as well as meeting santa, you can see his reindeers too; head down to Made-Well on Saturday 15th December.
Say ‘Ho Ho Ho’ from 5pm on 22nd December as Santa makes his way to Westward Ho! for a night of hot food, carols and present giving.
Christmas Events
For something a little different this Christmas, head to the Queens Theatre Barnstaple from Friday 14th December for a night of dreams with Peter Pan. Let the kids get stuck into some festive crafts at Arlington Court from 11am on Saturday 1st December or let them explore the outdoors with a Christmas Trail, looking out for festive deer along the way.
If adrenaline is more your thing, then visit the North Devon Arena at Mullacott Cross for a Christmas Family Roller Disco! Roll around to the latest and greatest pop hits and enjoy a basket meal and complimentary glass of prosecco or juice on arrival.
Gin and music are a great combination at Christmas, so head to SQ for their special Christmas Gin and Music Festival on Saturday 8th December. With over 30 gins at their dedicated gin bar and live music all evening, it’s set to be an awesome night.
