If there’s one thing that North Devon’s famous for it has got to be its beaches and coastline. To help you make most of these beautiful sights, we thought we’d outline the best places by the sea in North Devon. From the best places to eat, to the best places for dogs – keep reading to discover our top picks!
We’re lucky to have so many eateries located right by the sea in North Devon. Head to The Seagate in Appledore or The Red Barn in Woolacombe to enjoy delicious pub grub with stunning views. Alternatively stop by The Glorious Oyster in Instow to indulge in their selection of fresh local seafood or, if you’re looking for a extra-special eatery by the sea, the place to head has to be The Saunton Sands Hotel. Their Al Fresco Terrace boasts one of the best views in the area, alongside serving amazing food – what more could you wish for?
North Devon not only has so many places to eat by the sea, the area also has so many beautiful places to stay. If you’re a fan of camping or holiday parks, we’d recommend Europa Park. The site has spectacular views over Woolacombe Beach. If you’re a lover of B&B’s Collingdale Guest House in Ilfracombe has six beautiful rooms with stunning views of the Harbour. The B&B is award-winning and very reasonably priced. For accommodation with a real wow-factor, we’d recommend the Watersmeet Hotel or the Woolacombe Bay Hotel.
The South West Coast Path runs throughout North Devon, giving you a view of the coastline along every trail. Our personal favourite walking spots in the area are Baggy Point in Croyde and the Valley of the Rocks. Both give you breathtaking views of the sea and coastline.
There’s so much for families to do in North Devon, with many of them being located by the sea. Skern Lodge, based in Appledore, offer a mix of activities that involve the ocean, including surfing, bodyboarding, rafting and kayaking. If you’re thinking of making the most of North Devon’s fantastic beaches as a family, we’d recommend learning to surf. Both the Nick Thorne Surf School and the Croyde Surf Academy are great options. Or, if you like to combine stay with play, definitely head to Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks. They have a range of exciting activities for all the family to enjoy whilst of course being so close to the award-winning Woolacombe Beach.
The best places by the sea for couples firstly has to be all of North Devon’s spectacular beaches. We’d recommend heading out in the evening to whichever beach takes your fancy – what’s more romantic than watching the sun set?
For the daytime head to the coastal villages of Clovelly and Lynmouth. Both locations are steeped in history and are wonderful for wandering around and discovering beautiful sights around each corner.
The best place by the sea for your pooches has to be all of North Devon’s beaches! If you’re not sure of which beaches you can take your furry friend to, check out our handy guide here.
