Welcome to 2019! After the mad rush of the Christmas countdown and North Devon’s New Year festivities, you may be in need of a bit of a respite. Or, you might be more like us - already gearing up for the next event!
However you feel though, there won’t be any January blues here; we’ve got plenty on throughout to interest all sorts of people, so keep reading to discover what’s on in North Devon this month.
Week Commencing 31st December
It’s your last chance to experience Rosemoor Glow at the weekend; an amazing display of winter illuminations that really shouldn’t be missed. To end the exhibition on a high, there will be family lantern making workshops wherein you can create your own glass lanterns to take home. Participating guests are also encouraged to come back on Saturday evening to get involved in a lantern parade that’ll mark the end of the event.
Although it will be sad to see it finish, don’t be too upset; Rosemoor have a whole host of other events throughout January.
Their extremely popular Winter Sculpture Exhibit will be continuing until the 24th February, with a huge number of brand new artists and incredible pieces against the gorgeous garden setting. This year’s exhibition will also pay homage to the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War with a commemorative display.
Garden enthusiasts will have a fantastic time at Merry Harriers Garden Centre, with a clearance sale running until the 6th January and offering up to 50% off. Their shop is full of interesting crafts, clothes, furniture and more. And for those who enjoy interesting displays and exhibitions, the White Moose Gallery will be continuing to run their Magi exhibit until the 5th January.
Finally, why not start off your year with an eco-friendly touch by participating in the Big Saunton Beach Clean?
Week Commencing 7th January
Get yourself back in the partying spirit with a night out in Umberleigh; the Highbullen Hotel is only hosting a Motown Tribute evening on the 12th. Tickets are on sale now for the night of live music and a two-course buffet dinner.
Meanwhile, throughout January Dartington Crystal will be carrying on their special offer of free entry to their Visitor Centre and Factory Tour, so it’s the perfect time to drop in.

This week will be a busy one. The Ilfracombe District Tourism Association continue their annual run of fundraising quizzes, with January’s taking place on the 15th. Whether you’ve joined in with the last couple or fancy turning up for a one-off, booking a table is recommended due to popularity.
Back at Rosemoor, an exciting new event is planned towards the end of the month - the very first Gardenia Sale! On the 19th and 20th of January, Rosemoor’s Garden Room will be a treasure trove of quirky garden gifts from sellers all over the South West.
