North Devon is one of the best watersport locations in the south west, whether you are a pro or a novice there is something for every ability, so take a look at these top surf spots and get yourself out on the waves!
Saunton Sands
Not only is this a great beach for those that love boards, but it is also one of the prettiest beaches in the county. It is a good one for beginners as it has slow waters and being a popular surf spot, you can find instructors and equipment hires all along the front.
Woolacombe
This award winning beach offers a great wave for beginners and intermediates wanting to get out on the water. It’s a good place to build your confidence before tackling some of the bigger waves later in the year. Again, as one of the more picturesque beaches in the county, it can get busy, but if you want somewhere a bit quieter, walk along the north end of the beach towards Coombesgate beach. This one is more suited to those with some experience as there are rocks and stronger currents.
Croyde
This is arguably the most popular spot for surfers in the county and throughout the village you’ll find surf shops and companies offering sessions for all ages and abilities especially during the peak seasons. This beach has consistent waves and you can find waves for beginners and more advanced riders at different times of day. It does get crowded during the summer, so make sure to head out early.
Putsborough
If you want big waves walk down to Putsborough Beach from Woolacombe beach. While there are some bigger waves here, it does offer chances for beginners to get out on their boards. For a stronger wave, head for the south end of the beach, but remember to stick to your limits, it can be quite dangerous for the inexperienced.
