18th October 2017
We’re almost spoilt for choice for things to do during this half term and Halloween in North Devon.
Whether you’re on a holiday to the area and staying in some amazing accommodation, or are a resident here and wondering what the local attractions are up to, there is plenty happening to keep us all busy and suitably spooked.
We’ve rounded up some of the best things to do for Halloween in North Devon and the 2017 October half term break so you don’t have to…
Lasting between the 21st and 29th of October, The Big Sheep near Bideford is always a popular family attraction any time of the year, but especially during the holidays. To celebrate Halloween they’ll be doing family fun by day and scary by night for a whole week.
For the kids there’ll be the usual attractions between 10am and 5pm, plus Halloween characters, a haunted hayride, an arachnophobia ride, a lakeside train, a haunted house and much more.
Then after 6pm it’s the adults who are in for a scare. Take the rides, haunted house and spooky castles, add live actors, strobe lighting and scary sound effects for entertainment not suitable for children or adults of a sensitive nature.
Discover more through their website.
Families are invited to enrol for the very special School for Witches and Wizards at The Milky Way this half term. Between the 21st and 29th of October the adventure park, near Clovelly, will have lots of Halloween activities to enjoy on top of the usual complete day out they provide.
Designed to be fun rather than scary, a day here will include fancy dress competitions, themed shows, and special spooky swamp dodgems sessions. Plus, your little horrors will be able to take part in wand making, spell writing and casting, broomstick rides and potion making at the school.

Staying at The Milky Way, they have a Star Wars Day on the 28th October! Sci-Fi lovers and fancy dress enthusiasts, make the most of this occasion to dress up as your favourite characters – you may even bag a prize for being best dressed. Whether you’re with the dark side or on the Jedi team, take part, you must.
Visit Quince Honey Farm in South Molton for half term to join in with some witchcrafting and spooky fun in the Play Hive, and try some deliciously ghoulish homemade treats in the cafe.
Visit anytime between the 21st and 29th October when there will be full days of activities including a guided tour of BeeWorld, beekeeping demos and honey tasting, as well as the chance
In Bideford is Atlantic Village, North Devon’s outlet shopping centre. On the 21st of October they’re holding Choc Fest to celebrate all things chocolate, where local suppliers will be on hand to provide treats and Willy Wonka will be paying special visits too.
Between the 21st and 29th there’s a lot going on: enter the competition to win a £50 voucher, see Dragon Dreckly (above) and enjoy dragon hunting, potion making, pumpkin carving and a spooky maze.
There’s also free face painting and glitter tattoos from the 23rd and spooky tennis on the 23rd and 24th. Finally, Atlantic Village has teamed up with the Sarah Anne Westcott School of Dance for a ‘thrilling’ event! Watch their haunting rendition of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ at 10am on the 28th October, followed by a special second performance at 11am including the Atlantic Village team – and passers by!
Have you visited Clovelly before? If not, the 28th October is a good day to go for the first time; it’s their annual Apple Day celebrations. Take in the carless cobbled streets, enjoy the views and the walks, experience the history and get involved with a whole orchard of family fun!
There’s too much happening in one day to summarise here, so learn more by going through to our Apple Day events page. It promises to be an entertaining day for the whole family, starting from 12pm.
