Looking for a new challenge to take part in during 2018? There are plenty of wonderful events in and around North Devon to challenge the mind, body and soul. One of which, StarTrek, is just a couple of months away.
Ilfracombe Rotary Club’s StarTrek is a charity night walk on Exmoor National Park, covering a predetermined route across the beautiful moors after dark – with just a compass and map to get you around! The event for 2018 will be on the 3rd and 4th March.
The full trek is around 16 miles long with a shorter trek of eight miles. The route varies each year and is announced just a week ahead of the event.
Paul Williams from Ilfracombe Rotary Club is part of the team which helps run the event. He said: “It is walked by teams of four to six people, and is supported and ran by a good team of experienced volunteers providing, catering, search and rescue facilities, medical aid and all other aspects of the event to ensure the walkers get a good experience and enjoy the event whilst raising funds for the charities.
“Our main beneficiaries each year are the Children’s Hospice South West and North Devon Hospice. Many other smaller local charities and groups also benefit. More details are available on our website where there are downloadable application and sponsorship forms.”
The Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs, St John’s Ambulance and Raynet Assisted Search and Rescue will work around the clock throughout the night to ensure walkers remain safe and well. Then, in the morning when you cross the finish line, hot refreshments, tea and coffee await.
Applications are invited now, with a few teams having already signed up. The application fee is £15 per person, and you can sign you and your team up here.
