9th April 2019
Easter is an exciting time here in North Devon; the sun is out (hopefully), baby lambs are on their way, and all of the beautiful gardens and wildlife are bursting into bloom.
This year things are looking especially exciting, with plenty of family events and entertainment for the children planned all over the area. Don’t worry about becoming overwhelmed though; we’re going to outline all the events coming up for you. Keep reading to find out what they are.
The Milky Way will be hosting another one of their seasonal extravaganzas, with two different events available between the 11th and 24th April.
Children between 1 and 12 will have the chance to visit the exciting and unique HQ of the Easter Bunny - and his team of eggsperts. With VIP access to the Easter Grotto, they’ll get insider information on just how all the Easter magic is made, and will receive a chocolate egg from the Bunny himself at the end.
All children are invited to take part in the Easter Treasure Hunt across the site. Use clues to complete the treasure sheet, which will then be entered into a Golden Egg draw to win fantastic prizes for the whole family.
You don’t even have to pay extra for either of these - both are included with your entrance fee!
Speaking of treasure hunts, there’s something fantastic going on in Clovelly this year. Between 8th - 22nd of April, all children visiting Clovelly Village will receive a map on entry, marking the location of 15 hidden Easter chicks which are dotted around the village.
You’ll need to search from the cobbles down to the quay to spot as many as you can. Children who spot 10 chicks can return the map to the visitor centre and win an Easter egg - and a bigger prize is in store for children who find all 15!
Rosemoor Gardens are offering some great family fun over the Easter period too. A series of fun family workshops will be taking place over the Easter Holidays, allowing kids to get imaginative with a series of crafts.
This will also include a very exciting tie-up with Julia Donaldson’s Rhyming Rabbit, which younger children will absolutely love, as well as a special garden trail with the first ever Wool & Yarn Fest.
Finally, you can also meet the Easter Bunny - and his trusty sidekick Sherbet Fontaine, head of the sugar coating department at Easter HQ. Get photos with the characters and partake in some interactive fun.
The children can enjoy a day of traditional Easter entertainment at Hartland Abbey. The garden and woodland are going to be full of hidden clues, which when pieced together will lead the kids to discover a whole bunch of Easter eggs to be enjoyed.
With beautiful grounds perfect for walking, there will also be traditional games and treats, with light lunches and cream teas to be enjoyed indoors.
Throughout April, there will be Easter entertainment galore at The Big Sheep. The 1st - 5th of April is the time for the younger ones to shine with their Toddler Takeover, including an egg hunt with a chocolate prize for every child, Easter crafts, an interactive music show with the Jiggy Wranglers, as well as the chance to meet small animals, newborn lambs and the Easter Bunny himself!
The main Easter Eggstravaganza event will take place from the 6th - 22nd of April. With over 30,000 chocolate eggs to find across the site, you can choose to either search for tiny eggs (to trade for a large one!) or lettered eggs to be traded for prizes upon entry. Plus, Spring will be well underway - which is always an exciting time at the Big Sheep, as you may get to see the baby lambs.
Organised by the National Trust, some of North Devon’s most beautiful locations will be playing host to some exciting events this Easter.
Across Woolacombe, Baggy Point, Brownsham, Watersmeet and Heddon Valley, clues will have been left by the Easter Bunny to take you all across beautiful trails through sand dunes or woodlands. Find as many as you can and trade them in for a delicious Cadbury’s egg.
Taking place at various times over the Easter weekend, booking is essential for some of these.
Arlington Court will be hosting its own Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt, as well as various other activities perfect for the family.
The kids can get outdoorsy, working with the garden team to create their very own mini Easter Garden to take home and look after on the 10th April. Alternatively, visit on April 18th and, with the help of Arlington’s head gardener, get creative and make a floral table display perfect for brightening up the home for Easter Sunday.
Phew - whether you live locally, or are visiting North Devon for the Easter holidays, it’s going to be a busy one! If you’re attending any of these events, or have any adventures of your own planned for the holiday, let us know on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
