Are you toying with where to head on your staycation this year? Trust us when we say that North Devon is the perfect choice – we have it all!
From spectacular food and beautiful arts, to scenic walks and of course some of the UK’s best beaches, keep reading to discover 5 reasons why you should choose to staycation in North Devon this year.
If there’s anything that North Devon has a plethora of, it’s good food and restaurants. From traditional pubs like The George and Dragon in Combe Martin, to quintessential tea rooms like Tea on The Green in Westward Ho!, to Michelin-starred restaurants like The Masons Arms in Knowstone – no matter what type of food you’re looking to dine on, North Devon has a restaurant for you.
Looking for culture and arts? You’re in luck, North Devon has a fantastic offering. Take Broomhill Sculpture Gardens, for example. They have an eclectic collection of over 300 sculptures set in 15 acres of plush North Devon countryside. We always suggest dining in their restaurant too, featuring a delicious tapas menu taking inspiration from the Mediterranean – the restaurant has won multiple awards and is the perfect end to exploring the art exhibits.
If you prefer to get hands on with the arts – why not consider the White Moose Gallery in Barnstaple? The gallery gives visitors the chance to get involved in their very own creations in their Portrait Classes on Tuesday afternoons. You’ll be taught by Hester Berry who’ll give you guidance on your skills and will help you create a stunning portrait to take home with you.
If you love to pick up momentos and local produce whilst you’re on your staycation, North Devon has you covered. There are a range of pannier markets around the area, in Bideford. Torrington and Barnstaple, which are not only great for shopping but meeting the friendly locals behind the produce.
If you’re more interested in shopping centres, head to Atlantic Village. The shopping village has over 30 outlets including big brand stores like Nike, M&S and GAP – just the place if you’re looking to pick up quality goods at discounted prices!
Walking in North Devon really is a delight; the area boasts the longest National Trail in the UK in the form of the South West Coast Path. Explore this path and you’ll always be on your way to one of our breathtaking beaches with views to die for all along the way.
Saving the best until last – it’s North Devon’s beautiful beaches of course! If you’re a lover of sandy beaches we’d recommend the golden stretches at Woolacombe Beach and Saunton Sands Beach, or if you’d prefer a quieter area, often where locals like to head, try the likes of Bucks Mills Beach or Mortehoe Beach.
