A British tradition that has ended our weekends perfectly for hundreds of years, the humble Sunday roast is a dish that gets most mouths watering. The question is, where is the best place to get stuck into some fluffy roasties and mighty meats in North Devon?
The Williams Arms, Braunton
With a local reputation to uphold, the Williams Arms in Braunton does not disappoint when it comes to carvery. Dishing up some of the finest ingredients from South West producers, local meats, seasonal vegetables and even gluten-free gravy, they really do have something for everyone. Best of all, their carvery is available every day of the week, not just on Sundays.
The Blue Ball, Countisbury
The The Blue Ball Inn’s proximity to the village of Lynmouth and its historic past and commitment to serving the highest quality local produce, make this traditional pub one of the best spots for a Sunday roast in North Devon. Enjoy a range of wonderfully cooked meats, freshly prepared vegetables and to top it off, homemade Yorkshire puddings.
Country Cousins, Westward Ho!
Dedicated to serving the people of Westward Ho! delicious dinners since 1986, Country Cousins greets you with a smile, as well as the smell of a scrummy roast. Traditional in style, they serve up the classic carvery offerings seven days a week. It’s not only the food that draws in tourists and locals alike; the location, 100m from the seafront, makes the whole experience that little bit more special.
Muddiford Inn, Barnstaple
Situated in a historic 16th century inn, people flock from far and wide to enjoy the delights of The Muddiford Inn. A family run business since 2015, they have perfected their food and bar menus. Served from 12pm - 8pm every Sunday, you can indulge in traditional trimmings together with tasty meats. They’re dog friendly, so you can also bring the pooch along for some Sunday family fun.
Chichester Arms, Bishops Tawton
The Chichester Arms is your typical 15th century thatched pub and has been the hub of the local village of Bishops Tawton for hundreds of years. With a motto of ‘Proper Man Food’, you know you’re in for a hearty meal when you visit this warm and cosy pub. A dedicated team of chefs serve up home cooked Sunday roasts weekly from 12pm-9pm, with a nut roast option and all the trimmings.
The Kings Arms, Georgeham
The centre spot of a vibrant community in Georgeham, The Kings Arms had to be on our list somewhere. They create dishes that ‘WOW’, and their roast dinners are no exception. With a focus on quality food, drink and most importantly hospitality, you’ll certainly be looked after on a Sunday roast stop here.

With dishes that you can’t say no to, head to the The Black Venus in Challacombe for high quality food, service and atmosphere. Serving outstanding roasts and nestled in the Exmoor countryside, this is the place to come if you want to enjoy both a fantastic dining experience and stunning scenery.
