We’re lucky enough here in North Devon to have so many unspoilt locations. From our very own UNESCO Biosphere Reserve to the timeless village of Clovelly, there is a huge variety to explore. But which should be on your ‘Things to do in North Devon List’? Read our suggestions below.

The North Devon Biosphere Reserve is one of only six in the UK. The reserve centres around the ecologically rich landscape of Braunton Burrows and spreads to over 3,000km² in radius. When visiting the reserve, you’ll be amazed at the lush greenery and the sweeping sand dunes – both are completely unspoilt and are the perfect location for a peaceful afternoon stroll.
Although it may look like a Mediterranean island, the picture above is in fact North Devon’s very own Lundy Island! Lundy can be found 12 miles off the coast of North Devon and is just 3 miles long and half a mile wide. The island was the UK’s first Marine Conservation Zone and its waters are brimming with an array of marine wildlife. Need we say more as to why the island is worth visiting?

Exmoor National Park is a truly unique area of North Devon, with visitors coming from all over the world to see it for themselves. The park has a mix of landscapes including high sea cliffs, rolling moorland and deep wooded valleys – all beautifully unspoilt. We’d suggest exploring as much of the park as you can. Around each and every corner there is a beautiful view to be discovered and appreciated.
Step back in time with a visit to Clovelly. The whole village is still in private ownership today, just as it was in the Elizabethan times. There are also no cars on the cobbled streets – just donkeys and sledges! Wander around the village and take it all in – we can assure you that there’s no place like it in the rest of the UK.
You may think we’re being boastful here but we’re really not – it’s true that the whole of the North Devon coastline is completely unspoilt! The best way to take in the coastline’s beauty is to walk it; you can find details of all the walks around the North Devon coast on our website.
In 2011 a large part of Exmoor National Park became an International Dark Sky Reserve – Europe’s first in fact. This recognises that the skies on Exmoor are some of the darkest in the world and consequently the best for stargazing. To fully appreciate Exmoor’s Dark Skies, we’d suggest heading up there on a clear night to appreciate the beautiful skies – you should even be able to spot the white lights of The Milky Way!
