Guidance on reopening for nightclubs and large events
20th July 2021
The Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a press conference on 19th July alongside the Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance and Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Jonathan Van Tam to discuss the move to Step 4 and the importance of the test, trace and isolate system.
The Prime Minister went on to say that many leisure activities will become increasingly more dependent on vaccination, as there are already a number of countries that require proof of two vaccines as a condition of quarantine-free travel and that this list is likely to grow.
He continued to say that the UK government has concerns about the continuing risks posed by nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather and has suggested that they make use of the NHS Covid Pass, which shows proof of vaccination, or by asking visitors to provide a recent negative test or proof of natural immunity as a means of entry. The government maintains that they reserve the right to mandate certification at any point and gave notice now that by the end of September, when all over 18s have had the opportunity to receive both vaccine doses, that they intend to make full vaccination the condition of entry into such venues. At this point, a negative test will no longer be sufficient. You can see the full statement here.
