In research undertaken by Dayinsure, it has been revealed that Devon is one of the top destinations for staycations with the South West topping searches across the board. By collected Google search volume data, Dayinsure has discovered which counties, seaside locations and attractions have benefited the most from people deciding to holiday at home this year.
Overall, Devon ranked third as the most searched county in the UK, fifth in the most searched hotel locations and second in searches for campsites and holiday cottages. Torquay, Salcombe, Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Clovelly, Dartmouth, Brixham, Paignton, Exmouth, Westward Ho!, Sidmouth, Teignmouth and Dawlish also ranked in the top searches for seaside destinations. Dartmoor and Exmoor were also in the top ten searches for National Parks.
The team at Dayinsure said: “Despite the fact the whole world is going through a turbulent time right now, it’s brilliant to see more UK residents looking to enjoy what the nation has to offer when it comes to holiday destinations.
“It might come as no surprise that Cornwall and the South West performed well across the board, as stunning locations that offer visitors a sense of rurality, they are the perfect remedy for current events. Cornwall especially has always been a popular holiday destination for those looking for some R&R and it just shows that this year the county’s long-standing adoration has been amplified.”
The data was collected between March and July of 2020 and found that the South West was the most popular staycation destination. Cornwall was the most searched destination by county, Bournemouth the most searched for seaside town, Cheddar Gorge the most searched for National Trust property and Stonehenge the most searched for English Heritage site.
