Get involved in the #MyMicrogap campaign in December
28th November 2019
VisitBritain have announced new dates for when businesses can get involved with #MyMicrogap Twitter chats, where businesses can share their own microgap offerings, on 2nd and 9th December.
The #MyMicrogap campaign is now in its second year and follows research by VisitEngland into the travel habits of young Brits. The research showed that less than a quarter of 18-34 year olds were likely to take a career break to travel in the next three years. It was suggested that young Brits could experience “The best bits of a gap year in a few days. Right here in the UK” and so the concept of the “microgap” was born.
Subsequent research showed that the idea of a microgap appealed to almost two-thirds of young brits with more than half likely to take a microgap within the next three months. The top activities and experiences sought after during a microgap were wellbeing and relaxation, visiting iconic landmarks, trying local food and drink; and seeing nature and wildlife. Research also showed that young people were keen to have the same self-development opportunities that a typical gap-year would offer. From this information four main focuses were created to represent what elements of the traditional gap-year people could experience in their microgap; Go Wild, Learn More, Switch Off and Give Back.
Following promotion via 10 and 30 second videos about Microgapping and the individual focuses, VisitBritain have now been offering opportunities for businesses to get involved directly via their social media campaign. As well as offering microgap assets such as animated GIFs for Instagram stories, VisitBritain will be posting tweets on their own twitter and inviting businesses to respond with their own experiences and events which would fit into the #MyMicrogap hashtag and the focus that they are promoting, the tweets are as follows:
2nd December, 10am: Go Wild focus – adventure activities that allow young people to challenge themselves and have unique experiences.
9th December, 10am: Switch Off focus – Time to relax, unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and technology. Get back in touch with nature.
To get involved in the twitter chats follow @VisitEngland on Twitter and look out for the posts on 2nd and 9th December, when the posts go live at 10am reply to the tweet with pictures or videos of your relevant activity, a link to where to book/find out about the activity and the #MyMicrogap hashtag. You can also use the hashtags #MyMicrogap and #loveUK on general social media posts which relate to the microgap campaign.
