Come along to the TMI Annual Convention 2018
12th July 2018
TMI Annual Convention 2018 - Creative Practice in Destination Management - building resilience; diversifying markets; embracing arts and festivals
The Annual Convention this year will be gathering in the dynamic harbour city of Bristol, a city at the cutting edge of embracing the creative energy of its residents and pursuing a resolute policy for sustainable urban planning. The Convention will offer its traditional mix of the latest policy initiatives, best practice project presentations, interactive workshops to share ideas and experiences. The first day brings students and practitioners together in a collegiate summit followed by a series of themed guided study tours around central Bristol. As usual this will be the event of 2018 for destination managers and industry practitioners who work with and within destinations of all types.
Join us to hear all latest developments, best practice and share experiences with fellow professionals working across destination management.
We’ll be releasing more details of the speakers, programme, study tours and workshops over the coming weeks and months but in the meantime, hold these dates in your diary and register your interest now. An outline of the programme is shown below.
Student/Practitioner Summit - 15th Oct, 10.30am to 2.15pm
The Convention will begin with a summit (including lunch) to provide a platform to link destination managers, practitioners and professionals to students of tourism (at postgraduate and undergraduate level) who are showing interest in developing careers in destination management. This will be the third year that we have run the summit, which attracted 80 delegates last year in Manchester. The idea is for destination professionals to offer advice and support to aspiring young talent about to enter our industry - and for students to meet and discuss their own career ideas and aspirations. There will be short talks a as part of the summit, woven between networking sessions and speed dating opportunities. The study tours will leave from the summit venue at the end of proceedings. The venue is Armada House in central Bristol.
Study Tours - 15th Oct - 2.15pm to 5pm
TMI are currently working with Destination Bristol to develop 3 study tours (2 on foot;1 harbour boat tour) displaying this great city at its finest and showcasing some of its inspiring destination policies and projects.
Evening Networking from 7.30pm
Following the TMI's AGM at 6pm, there will be a networking get together with food and drink at the Convention Hotel, the Bristol Hotel.
TMI Conference - 16th October - 9.00am to 4.15pm
This is the main conference day, taking place within the purpose built conference spaces of the SS Great Britain dockyard site on Bristol waterfront, and will consist of a morning plenary session, featuring an "expert panel" debate on key topical issues for destinations, along with some original and inspiring talks and addresses. The afternoon will offer a choice of breakout "workshops" and a final address on the latest tourism trends and forecasts for the UK. At the end of the convention there will be a 40 minute free guided tour of the SS Great Britain.
