Latest results are in from the Great Britain Day Visits Survey
4th June 2018
The Great Britain Day Visits Survey (GBDVS) measures the volume, value and trip characteristics of tourism day visits in Britain. The survey was first launched in 2011 and uses an online methodology to provide a detailed understanding of the market of day trips in Britain. Many of the attraction and events being held across Devon are looking to attract visitors from across the country, so it is important to understand how Britain’s day tourism affects the market.
Each month, Visit Britain and Visit England publish a monthly summery of the latest findings from the Great Britain Day Visits Survey, showing volume and value results for the year to date and the most recent three-month period for both tourism day visits and all leisure visits lasting three hours or more.
You can view the full results here. The results indicate that the volume of day visits in Great Britain in the three months leading to April 2018 decreased by -9% when compared to the same period last year. The value of those visits also decreased, by -4%.
Looking at England specifically, volume decreased by -10% in the three months to April 2018, a total of 335 million visits.
This is the same story for day visits of 3 hours plus. These decreased by -9% to 668 million visits versus the same period in 2017. The value however increased by +1% for the first three months of the year.
