An illustrated talk by Tom Greeves, co-author of The Three Hares, A Curiosity Worth Regarding.
The Three Hares share three ears, yet each beast has two, following each other in an eternal circle. Hares appear from sixth-century Buddhist caves in China to the Christian abbeys and churches of medieval western Europe. The Three Hares are given sacred and special status in diverse cultures with the motif appearing in the art of the Islamic world, Judaism and even that of the Mongol Empire. There are examples of work by artisans inspired by the Three Hares that date back more than 1400 years. Undoubtedly the motif is A Curiosity Worth Regarding.
As part of Art Trek Open Studios 2018, White Moose are delighted to be hosting the Three Hares exhibition.
Curated in collaboration with photographer Chris Chapman (co-author of The Three Hares, A Curiosity Worth Regarding), the show brings together a variety of printmakers, glassmakers, ceramicists and textile artists, all responding to the ancient three hares motif.
