You are here > Things to do > Wildersmouth Beach, Ilfracombe
Wildersmouth Beach is a picturesque sand and shingle beach located close to the town centre in Ilfracombe. At high tide, the beach is almost entirely submerged. Historically, the sheltered bay was a popular spot for smugglers.
The cove is bordered by a stone sea-wall, and a promenade runs along the back of the cove. The South-West Coast Path crosses the beach, adding to its appeal for walkers. The East Wilder and West Wilder streams, which meet in the town, flow into the sea through a tunnel at Wildersmouth Beach.
Despite its central location, Wildersmouth Beach is less crowded than many of the larger, sandier beaches in the area. It is particularly dog-friendly, making it a great spot for dogs to explore the rocks and splash in the water.
