About
White Moose are featuring four Devon based artists in their special 'MAGI' winter show:For the season of giving we are focusing our winter exhibition on four artist makers who produce high quality works with sumptuous finishes in their discipline of choice. Contemporary process painter Tim Bailey, ceramicist Bruce Chivers, jewellery maker Charmian Harris and textile weaver Jenny Wilkinson.
Exeter based painter, Tim Bailey has recently won The School of Art, Design and Architecture - Head of School Postgraduate Collection Award 2018. Tim is a contemporary process painter whose work explores the nature of surface; paintings are highly fluid exploring the properties of oil and varnish as applied to aluminium. His work has been exhibited in the UK, USA and Japan.
Australian born ceramicist, Bruce Chivers has been resident in England since mid-1980's, running a successful pottery on the edge of Dartmoor. He produces two distinct styles of ceramic; a range of high-fired porcelain utilising carefully-controlled crazing glazes, as well as Raku, where Bruce incorporates the spontaneity of fire.
Torrington based jeweller, Charmian Harris creates hand-crafted gold jewellery using high carats of gold together with sumptuous stones. Influenced by Early Greek, Roman and Egyptian jewellery and Pre-Columbian gold, she successfully exhibits her work at art fairs in the UK, including the prestigious Goldsmiths Fair, London, and in New York.
Exmoor based textile artist, Jenny Wilkinson makes hand-woven rugs from the finest natural materials, their characteristic texture and unique identity derived from her deep understanding of material and process. Home is 50 acres of hill farm, where Jenny keeps a flock of Shetland sheep for wool and conservation grazing. She is a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and exhibits widely in the UK.
