Earth, Water, Fire!
About
Earth, Water, Fire! is an incredible and unique live performance at Hartland Parish Hall exploring today’s land through our ancestors’ eyes. It is a fascinating collaborative production with professional performers together with local people and artists that is touring Devon.
Devon-based storyteller Lisa Schneidau spent the autumn working with Dr Claire Kelly of Plymouth University and a wide range of people from across Northern Devon. They explored the latest climate and environmental science, met people battling with modern monsters, and explored how science and stories can entwine to illuminate the new generations living in the long-established landscapes around us. This collaboration became a specially created contemporary storytelling show for North Devon audiences, incorporating folk tales, climate data, community debate, music & film.
These are tales told through generations, with the knowledge and wisdom of people and places passed on and wrapped in the epic journeys of heroes, heroines and dragons. What hero stories would our ancestors tell of rural life today? Our landscapes are rapidly changing, the maidens have attitude and armour is pointless… Lisa, with musician Emma Welton and filmmaker Matt Biggs, present a new contemporary storytelling show, directed by Paula Crutchlow, that connects us across the centuries.
Resurgence hosts the Hartland performance and the whole touring project is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Torridge and North Devon Councils, Beaford and Plymouth University.
Running time is approximately 1hr 50 minutes and there will be an interval for teas, coffees and space for discussions to arise and enjoyment of the displays.
This is teenage/adult storytelling, so it is suitable for ages 13+ due to the complexity of themes (anyone younger might struggle to follow).
