Dead Men's Eyes - Ghost Stories by M R James at Arlington Court
About
On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December the MR James Project by the Nunkie Theatre
Company will be performing ghost stories by candlelight in the stairway hall at Arlington.
Montague Rhodes James [1862 – 1936] wrote his ghost stories to perform to friends in the
years leading up to WW1. Today they have lost nothing of their power to terrify and amuse.
Nunkie Theatre Company performs two of James's very best, in a thrilling one-man show –
the scarcely-believable fifth instalment of The M R James Trilogy.
In "A View from a Hill" a pair of old binoculars reveal the grisly history of an idyllic stretch of
English landscape. In "The Treasure of Abbot Thomas" a treasure-seeker comes face to face
with unspeakable horror at the bottom of ancient well.
"Dead Men's Eyes" is the sixth instalment of Nunkie's M R James Project, a series of one-
man shows that seek to revive the tradition of oral, supernatural storytelling that was
perfected by Montague Rhodes James in Cambridge in the years leading up to World War
One.
