For over 150 years, Bideford Pannier Market has been a much-loved part of town life, offering visitors a lively mix of local traders, independent stalls and traditional market atmosphere. Set in the heart of this historic North Devon port town, the market is a must-visit attraction for shoppers, day-trippers and holidaymakers alike.
Whether you’re hunting for handmade gifts, sampling local produce or simply soaking up the buzz, Bideford Pannier Market brings together heritage, community and commerce under one classic Victorian roof.
Built in 1884, Bideford Pannier Market is one of the few remaining covered Victorian markets in the South West. Its name comes from the pannier baskets once used by traders to carry goods on horseback into town. Today, the high arched roof, iron framework and original layout preserve the charm of a bygone era while hosting a thoroughly modern shopping experience.
The market has long served as a social hub for the town, connecting generations of locals and welcoming visitors from across Devon and beyond.
The market offers a changing line-up of stalls throughout the week, meaning no two visits are ever the same. Expect to find:
