At the Royal & Fortescue Hotel, you have the choice between elegant dining in the Lord Fortescue Restaurant or the bistro, 62 The Bank.
The Lord Fortescue offers first class cuisine in a lavish setting. Opulent furnishings and attentive staff create a special dining experience.
62 The Bank is a fashionable bar and bistro adjoining the Royal & Fortescue, where there is superb food and a vibrant atmosphere until late.
Lord Fortescue
Our mouth-watering menus are complemented by personal attentive service and the impressive surroundings. The Lord Fortescue Restaurant makes a great venue for a memorable luncheon party with family and friends, maybe to celebrate a special birthday, wedding anniversary or indeed any other special occasion. Every lunch time including Saturday and Sunday evening, Lord Fortescue Restaurant is where you can take your pick from our fabulous Carvery. Non-residents are welcome. Please call us to reserve your table for a first-rate dining experience at one of the best restaurants in North Devon.
Extensive sample menus are available to download from our website, so you can get an idea of the fabulous food on offer.
62 The Bank
Adjacent to the Royal & Fortescue Hotel, you will find 62 The Bank with its oak panelling and incredible Jacobean ceiling. Despite its archetypically English setting, 62 The Bank creates great flavours from around the globe. A wonderful place to meet up with friends and linger over a coffee, lunch or an evening meal. Now, this atmospheric building is restored to its former glory and, as in its heyday when it housed the Golden Lion, it is again a place where you can eat, drink and be merry.
The stylish bistro is set in an extraordinary building, over 300 years ago it was once a merchant’s house when Barnstaple was a bustling trade centre. There is an eclectic evening menu for meals and an awesome range of cocktails, make sure to take a look at our menus online where you can find our drinks menu, our seasonal lunch menus and our party menus.
Coffee House
Set right by the lounges of the Royal & Fortescue Hotel, our Coffee House is a delightful place to take some precious time out to relax. Among the simple and tempting menu are speciality coffees which are perfect for savouring those special moments. You’ll find it difficult not to be tempted by the array of cup-cakes, pastries and of course Devonshire Clotted Cream Teas, as well as our famous speciality coffees and warming hot chocolate with marshmallows. The comfortable and inviting environment makes the Royal & Fortescue Coffee House a very special place to relax and recharge.
Bar 62
Bar 62 is our dazzling new cocktail bar, this amazing cocktail bar with its fresh, contemporary decor and sleek furnishings combined with subdued lighting create a very special place to gather with friends. Our reputation as the most convivial place to meet in Barnstaple has been given a further boost with the opening of this wonderful venue. Sip on an aperitif before your meal at one of our restaurants, enjoy an expertly prepared seasonal cocktail, or maybe drop in for a glass or two of bubbly before your trip to the theatre. And afterwards, you can sink into one of our comfy sofas and round off your evening with one of the world’s finest spirits. Treat yourself to a touch of the high life.
The drinks list with our house curated cocktails is available to view online, so you can make a short list of your favourite drinks ready for your stay!
We’re lucky to have some amazing local foods produced right on the doorstep, which is why we like to source our fresh foods as locally as possible.
