Peace and Quiet in Rural North Devon
Raleigh Barn is a peaceful 2 bedroom holiday cottage nestled in the beautiful rural countryside of North Devon.
Recently converted, the barn is a Grade II Listed converted milking parlour and made of stone and cob. It is in the grounds of a Listed farmhouse, all of which dates back to the 16th Century and is set in five acres of land with beautiful views over Ruby Country. Being in the heart of rural North Devon, the barn is surrounded by peaceful farmland and hedgerows full of flowers. Those who love the great outdoors will love this area - ideal for water sports, walking, cycling, and more.
The front bedroom has a king-size bed with beautiful views over farmland. The ensuite bathroom includes a bath with shower. The rear bedroom again has a king-size bed, but it can also be converted into two single beds. The ensuite bathroom has a walk in shower. Both bedrooms include a hair dryer, alarm clock and plenty of storage space for clothes. Laura Ashley towels are included along with Clovelly soap.
The kitchen is well equipped with electric oven, electric hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. An electric kettle and toaster is also included. In the separate Boot Room you will find a freezer and washer/dryer. The dining area seats four and there are at least 8 sets of tableware, glasses and cutlery (so you don’t have to be continually washing up on your holiday!).
The living room includes 2 sofas and an armchair for you to sit in front of the cosy wood burning stove on chillier evenings. A basket of logs, kindling and firelighters is included and more can be purchased. The smart TV includes Freeview and a DVD player. If you fancy staying in, there is a selection of DVDs, books, puzzles and games to keep you amused. In addition, the fast WiFi is free with a good signal throughout the barn. You will have everything you need for a relaxing stay.
Through the French windows, there is access to the patio/garden area (with 4 chairs, a table and sun shade) and the garden. A barbecue is also available.
The underfloor heating is provided by our biomass boiler (which heats the main house as well). It is divided into three zones (the 2 bedrooms and ensuites, and the living area) and is fully controllable by individual thermostats. This heating system, along with our solar panels and other initiatives means your stay will have a very low environmental impact (reflected by our Silver Green Tourism award – hoping for Gold in 2020!).
Parking is available for 2 cars and is only a few metres from the entrance to the barn.
A highchair and travel cot is available free of charge on request.
The hamlet of East Putford feels totally off the beaten track but yet it is so accessible. We are 15 minutes from the historic port town of Bideford and 25 minutes from the seaside resort of Bude.
The area is wonderful for walking whatever your level of fitness. North Devon is famous for its long and varied coastline with its wonderful walks and long unspoilt sandy beaches. You can enjoy fine countryside and fabulous views right from our doorstep or, a little further away, follow the coastal path or just stroll along the variety of nearby beaches. There are also many historic houses and gardens nearby including RHS Rosemoor. For the kids there is The Big Sheep, the Milky Way Adventure Park, wildlife parks and farms. Or try something different, such as sea fishing for mackerel, surfing or horse riding.
Raleigh Barn is perfect for couples and family holidays and those who wish for a peaceful, relaxing hideaway. This is a superb location in any season.
