Perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean In a spectacular, secluded corner of North Devon, Hartland Quay with its hotel and bar is situated on The South West Coast Path in easy reach of the A39 Atlantic Highway. Midway between the coastal towns of Bideford and Bude and close to world famous Clovelly, a warm welcome awaits visitors whether arriving by car or on foot after a long day’s walking.

Approaching Hartland Quay, via its winding drive, stunning views appear – south to the Cornish coast, to Tintagel and beyond; north towards treacherous Hartland Point. Lundy is 12 miles offshore. Huge waves crash onto the Quay beach in wild weather, beautiful clear, calm waters are perfect for swimming in good weather. The Quay bay has some of the most spectacular cliffs in the British Isles much admired by geologists, photographers and artists.

Hartland Quay is a great base to explore Devon and Cornwall. Our National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor and the Cathedral City of Exeter are well worthwhile days out. Take the Tarka Line railway from Barnstaple for a hassle free visit to Exeter. Hire a bicycle in Bideford or Barnstaple for a carefree day of cycling on The Tarka Trail. Bude, Tintagel and the north Cornish coast are within easy reach.

Stay at Hartland Quay when travelling to Lundy, with the heliport at Hartland Point nearby. Visit Hartland village, with its artists and pottery, and the many local attractions close by. Our own Shipwreck Museum is an insight into the many wrecks on this treacherous coast. Historic Hartland Abbey with its fascinating history and beautiful gardens and St Nectans Church, the stunning ‘Cathedral of North Devon’, are both a leisurely walk away. Clovelly is only 5 miles drive or a good walk away.

For nature watchers seals and dolphins are fairly regular visitors in summer. Peregrine falcons hunt the cliffs. Seagulls, oyster catchers and cormorants fish in the ocean. Rock pools on the beach are full of life. Wild flowers in spring and early summer are a sight to behold on the cliff walks.
