Unique Conferences & Events Venue at Buckfast Abbey
Conveniently located midway between Exeter and Plymouth, just off the A38, the Buckfast Abbey Conference Centre has recently undergone an extensive makeover, including the construction of a new mezzanine floor and terrace area in the Schiller Hall, which makes the most of stunning views over the River Dart, the Abbey Church, sweeping grounds and its beautiful gardens. Capable of catering for up to 140 delegates, the new Schiller Hall at the Conference Centre, has been extended to the East, providing new kitchen and catering facilities, as well as extended cloakrooms and service accommodation, making it a perfect venue for dinners, awards or special events.
The expanded central atrium area has a newly raised roof to flood in natural light, which compliments the further meeting rooms or breakout space on the first floor.
Six other event rooms, which can host groups of up to 85, are also available in the main building, each of which has been enhanced with the very latest in audio-visual equipment, to aid training, presentations or business events. Most of the rooms overlook beautifully maintained gardens that surround the Abbey.
Our latest addition, the Clifford Suite, is perfect for focussed productivity with all the amenities you need to work.
The Conference Centre is renowned for the quality of its food and its chefs prepare and cook all food daily, even including the biscuits at break times! Parking is free and all rooms come with a range of equipment including: flip charts, pens and paper, large screen and projection facilities, Wi-Fi, Audio facilities, connectivity via HDMI Cable, a built-in PC, White and Pin boards.
On-site accommodation for residential conferences and events, is available at the 32 bedroom on-site Northgate House Hotel, or group accommodation at Grangehurst House.
About Buckfast Abbey
Located at the centre of a picturesque valley on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Buckfast Abbey is home to a community of Roman Catholic Benedictine Monks, who live their lives in prayer, work and study according to the ancient rule of St Benedict.
Buckfast Abbey is the only English Benedictine monastery to be re-founded upon its original pre-reformation site. The original Abbey was founded in 1018 AD, by King Cnut. After the dissolution of the monasteries under King Henry VIII in 1538, the Abbey Church fell into ruin. It was rebuilt stone by stone upon its medieval foundations by a group of French monks.
Today, the site is a flourishing complex of buildings which the monks have continually developed to aid them in realising their vision for Buckfast - to be a national centre of witness to God, and the Roman Catholic faith.
The monks place great value upon hospitality, and welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The site also includes beautiful gardens, a restaurant, shop, exhibition, pizzeria and a broad range of guest accommodation.
